Welcome to Salt Creek Wife! This is going to be our place to laugh, cry, cook, craft, dress up, tell stories, and live life together!

My mission statement for this blog, and for life is #happywife #happylife. You’ve probably heard that saying before, more than likely grouped together. It’s a widely acknowledged idea that if the wife isn’t happy, nobody’s happy. But, what if we made it the other way around? What if we start with the wife being happy, and that happiness being contagious through the rest of the family? Happiness is choice we have every day, and my goal is to start a movement that happiness starts with yourself, and moves out through your life to the others around you. Let’s be happy wives that make happy lives around them.

You’ll see we’re a people that love food, fun, and the Lord. We’re new puppy parents, new to the working world, new homeowners, and newlyweds. Join in for the trials and triumphs while I live as a #happywife with a #happylife!

My name is Morie, and I’m so glad you’re here!

I’m a big fan of John Mayer, pilates/ barre classes, Milky Way Midnights, the Pioneer Woman, Vera Bradley, reading, Spurs basketball, cooking/baking, crafting, napping, puppy snuggling, Target, Texas Tech, polka dots, and shabby chic. I love the Lord and am constantly amazed at the wonderful blessings He showers us with daily.

While you’re here, you will undoubtedly hear about my job…

I have a BS in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and a Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) from Texas Tech and at my “day job”, I work for a practice that completes initial exams to help veterans get services through the VA. I am blessed to be able to use my training and education to help others, and blessed to have a job that is flexible to help me stay on top of everything at home!

And my handsome husband…

Steven and I met and started dating in the fall of 2012 and married on March 5, 2016. He graduated medical school at Texas Tech and is currently completing internal medicine residency with plans to complete fellowship training in gastroenterology. He enjoys hunting, fishing, soccer, and chicken with dumplins. He is a founding member of Salt Creek Outfitters, and wears Ariat dress shirts like nobody’s business. He is witty, kind, thoughtful, Godly and strong, and I couldn’t have prayed for a better husband. I’m a blessed girl!

Our labrador retrievers, Ruger and Gump…

Ruger was born March 27, 2016 and Gump was born August 13, 2016. They were both bred by Crumpler Kennels in Canton, Texas and are both from lines with strong hunting and retrieving skills. Steven is training them both to be bird retrieval dogs using a mix of methods he has developed through extensive research. Visit Salt Creek Retrievers to learn more about their training process.

Ruger is high-drive/ high intensity, and cannot be anywhere near something that needs to be retrieved without taking care of it (including dummies meant for his younger brother 😉 ). He is fiercely protective of his younger brother, and 100% loyal to Steven (and semi-attentive to me 😉 ). Gump is 100% sweetheart- he is my snuggle partner. He also has a high retrieving drive, but is still learning the ropes. He is often found napping, and is outgrowing his brother already, even though there is a five month difference in age.

And our Bull Mastiff, Boudreaux.

Boudreaux joined our little family on January 1, 2017. He is a little spitfire that loves to explore, and occasionally snuggle. He is a brindle color, which is not as common for Bull Mastiffs, and we joke that he is our little tiger cub! He is Gump’s sidekick, and can usually be found trailing behind him, or laying near/ on top of him. We have also joked that he will grow up thinking he is a retriever because of his older brothers, even though he’s really just supposed to be the watch dog- #saltcreeksecurity. He is growing fairly fast, and we are expecting him to reach about 130-140 pounds. Maybe bigger if he keeps stealing his older brothers’ food 😉

I’ll be confessing my latest baking indulgences, successful (and sometimes failed) Pinterest projects, fashion hits and misses, and life observances. We’ll laugh… we’ll cry… we’ll eat a lot of cake… 🙂
